The Mysterious Deaths of Ourang Medan

The existance of this ship is questioned until today. Although, there are some limited references of the ship, there is no official records that prove it ever existed. It gets more weird, cause according to the story, the ships that picked up the signal of the Dutch ship "Ourang Medan" existed.

According to different records on June of 1947 or February of 1948 the ship "Ourand Megan" transmited an disturbing signal in Morse code saying:

“All officers including captain are dead lying in chartroom and bridge. Possibly whole crew dead." The message was sent by a radio operator on board.

After a while a second signal was picked up. This time the message was: "I die".

The signal was picked up by two American vessels in the area. The "Silver Star" and the "City of Baltimore".
Soon after receiving the message the Silver Star sent a rescue team to Ourang Medan. The ship seemed in good conditions on the outside although no traces of the crew were seen. Soon the team boarded on the ship  and came across to a very disturbing view. All crew were dead, lying on the floors with  their eyes wide open, faces looking towards the sun, arms outstretched and a look of terror on their faces. Among the crew the ship's dog was also lying dead. According to the story there was no external wounds or blood on the bodies. While on board a fire started out of nowhere and the rescue team evacuated the Dutch freighter.
Later, there was an explosion and the ship sank.

Although there was no official shipping records in US,UK or Amsterdam that proves the ship's existance the investigation for the truth of this story continued. The first thing to look afterwards were the records of the two ships, that  picked up the signal. However, through the years the names of these ships changed after picked up by other companies and there were no paper trails that can lead to the Dutch Freighter.
Roy Bainton who did an exhausting research on the "Man from Medan"(Ourang Medan) with the help of German Professor  Theodor Siersdorfer found the two American ships as well a book from 1950, written by author Otto Mielke in which Mielke discribes the ship with many details from  route, cargo, tonnage and engine power and even the Captain’s name. There is speculation that Mielke had contacted with someone from the "Silver Star" crew. A step further, Mielke writes in his book something that could be a possible evidence, if true.He says  that  the Number 4 hold of the Ourang Medan may have been filled with a pair of exceedingly lethal and highly illegal substances. This last possible evidence would explain why Medan was removed from the records and possibly what happened on board from deaths to explosion.
