I was always quite envious of the kids in school who would cover their notebooks with fantastic, detailed sketches. My terrible bubble letters were pale in comparison. So I was excited and inspired when I came across these illustrations by Madrid-based artist Gabriel Moreno.
When speaking about his work, Moreno says, “I always liked to paint and draw, and when I found out that I could study a Bachelor of Arts in Seville and spend all day drawing in class without being expelled or sent to the principal, it was the happiest day of my life.” He combines his drawing and painting skills into these elaborate illustrations, often using basic tools such as a ballpoint pen. The way he utilizes negative space to create complex, optical illusions and multiple subjects is stunning.
The talented artist has been featured in many national and international publications and ad campaigns, including the LA Times, Rolling Stone, Esquire, and Computer Arts.
